The Great Experiment – How Much Will You Save?

You’ve probably heard that we have rolled to a credit-based society. It’s so bad that in the last twelve months VISA was still running those TV ads showing a guy in line at a grocery store “holding up the line” because he was using dirty old cash (they’ve since removed them and replaced them with “Go with VISA” commercials). The move to the “credit-based society” impacts us in other ways that are not as obvious as that. Millions of Americans use ATM and/or debit cards as their way to purchase almost everything – especially little purchases in their daily lives. They’re so cooooool, just like….credit. (*Credit is not cool. Credit is paying much more for any purchase that you should pay because you are borrowing future money you don’t have to pay for something you probably don’t need now. Oops!)

Now comes the BIG EXPERIMENT. Take your credit cards and your debit card out of your wallet or purse and place them on your kitchen table. Look at them. Smile. If you accept the challenge, here’s what we are doing:

Put your credit cards and your debit card away (in a personal safe if you have one; if you don’t have one, you should get a personal safe for your home).

The basic idea is to eliminate the your use of credit cards and debit cards for 45 days. For 45 days, you will use only cash. This will make you focus on every dollar you spend. We’ve seen the results again and again.

Have you ever noticed it is more difficult to spend cash than to slap down a credit card? Well, it is true. Research shows consumers spend more money per purchase over the course of any 45 day period when using credit cards or debit cards. A debit card or credit card makes spending seem easier.

All those little purchases add up.

Your goal is to use a cash-based ONLY system for 45 days to see what you may save over the previous 45 days. At the same time, you are bound (by our experiment) to take the money you save over the next 45 days and put the savings in your FDIC-insured money market or savings. We don’t want you to just see what you can save. We want you to put that money in SAVINGS.

This is a new era. Now we must position ourselves to save as much as possible and work to increase personal wealth. This is the time for you to develop ways to see how much money is wasted and put it in savings.

It’s not what you make. It’s not how much money you have in your checking account. (*Checking accounts are money laundering accounts for other people’s money).

Try the 45 day experiment to use only cash. Focus on how much you save. You can save money and grow wealth today. You just have to make yourself aware of the tricks used to skim your money from you. This is only one way to see the difference between what you want and what you need.
