Money doesn’t grow on trees. You heard your folks say that when you were a kid, right? Then, the Fed spit out almost free money for thirty years, credit card companies spelled out a fantasy about how you could live now like you were rich and pay later. Markets went up, markets crashed.
Now we’re in the hard middle. Let’s talk about the truth. How are you? How is your family? Forget the overall economy. Focus on the people you love.
Are you prepared if things get worse? Do you have a plan? That’s why we write these blogs. We want to encourage people to develop their own plans. We want to encourage education about saving and investing that will lead you to build savings to appropriate levels (see our main blog for this or check out “How To Survive Any Financial Crisis” for only $4.95 at http://www.middleclassmoney.com; it’s very cheap and helps us pay for our blogs and our main site. It will also help save you THOUSANDS of dollars).
The days are gone when every adviser is smarter than you and me. Now – they charge, they charge, they charge. Fees. And there is nothing wrong with using them. It is wrong just to give them your money though. Do your own research. If you don’t understand it, don’t do it.
Know what you should have in savings. Work to establish patterns of automatic and regular savings.
If you do this, you will have a great 2009 and 2010. There is no time to start saving like right now. If you don’t, you will reach a point where YOU HAVE NO MONEY.
